World of Goo 2 comes to Steam

After nearly a year of exclusivity on the Epic Games Store, World of Goo 2, the successor to the well-liked 2008 physics puzzler about creating bridges and skyscrapers out of wibbly wobbly slime balls, will launch on Steam this spring.

“Steam enthusiasts, take note! On the website of the latter, developers 2DBoy and the Tomorrow Corporation stated, “We have been discreetly preparing World of Goo 2 for additional platforms.” “This year… and SOON!” “World of Goo 2 will be available on Steam in the spring of 2025.”

According to reports, the Steam edition will include “fantastic new accomplishments” in addition to “other changes” that the makers intend to disclose later. The announcement states that “many” of these upgrades will be available for all game versions, but it also suggests that some may only be available on Steam.

World of Goo 2 debuted on the Epic Game Store last August. 2D Boy and Tomorrow Corp faithfully credit Epic for its support in funding the construction of the sequel. “We are thankful to Epic for providing funds for the game’s development—World of Goo 2 would not have been possible without this agreement—and now that the exclusivity period has expired, the game may be released on an additional platform.

It seems like a strange length for an exclusivity arrangement, considering when World of Goo 2 was released and when it is scheduled to launch on Steam. Usually, they should last at least a year, so perhaps Epic has let the developers go early because sales have not been as strong as anticipated. Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic, recently spoke about the company’s exclusive partnerships, and it appears that the strategy has not done anything to improve the Epic store.

During a press conference last year, he stated, “We spent a lot of money on exclusives,” adding that some of them were very successful. Many of them were poor investment choices. However, Sweeney claims that Epic’s weekly free game giveaways have gone “swimmingly” because “developers that give away free games actually experience an upswing in the sale of their paid games on the store.” It is not the same story for the company’s free game program.
