Singaporean Suspect Arrested In Bangkok For Major International Data Breaches

In a significant breakthrough in cybercrime investigations, a 39-year-old Singaporean man has been arrested in Bangkok, Thailand. This individual is believed to be connected to numerous high-profile hacking incidents not only in Thailand but also across several other countries.

The arrest was the result of an extensive collaborative effort between the police forces of Singapore and Thailand. According to Pol Maj Gen Atip Phongsiwaphai, the head of the Technology Crime Suppression Division, this operation highlights the importance of international cooperation in tackling cybercriminal activities.

The investigation was sparked when a company reported receiving a threatening message from a group identified as 0mid16B on X (formerly Twitter). The message demanded a substantial payment and warned that failure to comply would expose sensitive customer data. Such a breach could have catastrophic implications for the affected business, potentially leading to severe financial losses and reputational damage.

The swift action taken by law enforcement underscores the growing threat of cyber extortion and the need for vigilance among businesses to protect their data. As investigations continue, authorities are working to uncover more details about the suspect’s operations and any potential accomplices involved in these cybercrimes.

After a thorough investigation, authorities contacted the Singapore Police Force regarding a notorious hacker known as Desorden GhostR. This individual has gained infamy for orchestrating significant data breaches across various companies since 2020, affecting businesses in multiple countries.

The investigation led police to track the hacker’s social media activities, eventually pinpointing his location to a residence in the Ramkhamhaeng district of Bangkok. Armed with this information, law enforcement arrested the suspect at his home.

Upon apprehending him, officers seized a luxury vehicle, high-end branded bags, and an array of electronic devices believed to be used in his hacking operations. The total value of the confiscated items exceeded 10 million baht, highlighting the hacker’s lavish lifestyle.

Identified only as Chingwei, the suspect confessed to infiltrating the database systems of 20 companies in Thailand alone and over 50 others internationally. Among the notable breaches was an incident involving the well-known Black Canyon restaurant chain in 2024, which drew widespread attention and concern.

In a shocking revelation, the suspect confessed to police that he had been profiting from the sale of stolen data through a clandestine online platform operating on the dark web. This hidden realm, notorious for its illicit activities, allows transactions to occur in cryptocurrency, ensuring anonymity for both buyers and sellers.

According to the suspect, the minimum asking price for the stolen information was a staggering $500,000. The dark web’s secrecy-designed architecture made it nearly impossible to trace the identities of those involved in these transactions. This anonymity served as a shield, allowing him to operate without fear of detection.

He claimed to have meticulously targeted large corporations, avoiding government agencies altogether. The allure of high-value data from big companies seemed irresistible, and he believed they were less vigilant about their cybersecurity.

“I did it all alone,” he told investigators, revealing a chilling sense of pride in his solitary operation. As he recounted his methods, it became evident that he had crafted a dangerous game, playing with the shadows of the internet while leaving no trace behind.
